Who needs ISO certification?

ISO certification of your company gives you evidence of quality to show that you are compliant with applicable laws and standards. Certification also helps to increase trust among both customers and suppliers and increase emphasis on quality internally within your company. The ISO standards are recognised internationally.

Quality work in a company requires large data volumes to be recorded. This includes everything from recording nonconformities and suggestions for improvement to risk assessments and measures. The company also has to document checks carried out, and meeting records have to be filed and stored in an appropriate location.

All of this is part of the result documentation within the company. The quality standard ISO 9001:2015 defines requirements to process this as documented information.

Documentation

It is up to each individual company to process documented information effectively, but there has to be compliance with certain items (see section 7.5). Among other things, documentation has to be identified and described, the format and type of medium have to be determined, and you are responsible for ensuring accessibility, appropriateness and protection.

ISO and quality

NORWEGIAN STANDARD ISO 9001 defines the word “quality” as “the extent to which a collection of inherent properties meets a need or expectation specified, normally understood or mandatory”. At the corporate level, this relates to how a product or service meets the customer’s requirements. You must also assess storage and control of changes. This then has to be approved by an officer.
